Ways of Stopping Your Dog from Biting

As a dog owner who knows that his dog is tempted to bite or shows this tendency on frequent occasions, you should consider finding ways to stop your dog from biting. This is a fact that is noticed mostly with puppies in their way of becoming mature.

But unfortunately this issue can become more serious when they mature and as a result with aggressively biting dogs might be subjected to euthanasia. This shouldn’t get so far as long as you take the necessary measures at the right time.

You must understand first, that biting among dogs is a form of dominance proving something in the pack relationships. When a dog bites another dog it means that this one seeks for pack hierarchy acknowledgment.

Adopting a dog in the house will make him believe as being part of a pack where you are also in it even if you are a human. As a puppy he will reach through biting in enforcing his new position in the pack he just entered as a member. Even if this nipping looks quite lovable, it should not be encouraged.

Many methods are available to stop your puppy from biting. One could be to get the puppy by his neck scruff the same way a dog bite does showing that you are in charge. Another method would be to say a clear and firm “no” when this thing happens sending the message that this biting is not accepted.

With growing older, the bites can become more intense as the dog has the intention of telling you that he is in control and you would better be more submissive. The same should be done by using a dominant and calm voice that his behavior is not tolerated.

There is as well the aspect of eating your meal. Be the first one who has his meal and afterward feed your dog while letting him wait for his turn. Once the dog has reached the mature stage with his biting behavior not changed at all, he will start thinking that he is in charge and start biting accordingly.

But do not get too panicked as even at this stage there is something to do as well. With the assistance of a dog trainer you can get help to regain the dominance in the pack and also on your dog.

The dog trainer would be able to modify a set of behaviors, although this might take more time than with a puppy. This is why the best idea would be to stop all these undesired behaviors from the early stages of existence.

As with the adopted dogs at a more advanced age, there will be a lot of work to perform, but in the end, with calm, patience and perseverance everything is possible. With the assistance of a professional trainer this task can be successfully achieved.
